NATALIE RAE

I may be one of the younger hippies at the station, but don’t count me out! I’m 24-years-old and I’ve had a passion for 60s, 70s and 80s music ever since I was a kid. My favorite artist in the WORLD is Stevie Nicks because she inspired me and other women to make our mark in the music world.

A little blast from the past to prove my love for classic rock…My first favorite song was “Crocodile Rock” by Elton John. My pre-k school had a talent show, and I marched on the stage to dance to “Crocodile Rock.” I had two cheap “water yo-yos” – think of the rubber toys you see in restaurants' “kid vending machines.” I had no routine prepared or anything, I just swung my water yo-yos and danced to the Crocodile Rock!

That’s basically how I’ve lived my life since then, from my childhood until now. To quote the Grateful Dead, “if you ever get confused, just listen to the music play!”

I was a very shy kid during my teenage years. If you told my 16-year-old self that I’d be talking on the radio, I would have laughed at you! I discovered my passion for radio during my college years. I graduated from Georgia College & State University in the spring of 2020 (not a great time to graduate!) with a bachelor's in mass communications and another bachelor's in French. The best thing I did during those four years was when I created my old radio show on WGUR 95.3 The Noise, GC’s student-run radio station. Huge shoutout to WGUR and the GC's mass communication department!

I aired my first of many Hippie Happenings shows in September of 2016 and I kept it up for 3 and ½ years until COVID shut down our campus. I created the show name myself, picked my music every week and essentially got to talk about whatever I wanted – song trivia/history, concerts, any Lindsay Buckingham vs Stevie Nicks drama, you name it!

Hippie Happenings prepared me for this incredible station. I moved from Georgia to Nashville in February 2023 and I can’t tell you how happy I am to be here at Hippie Radio 94.5! It’s been a journey to get here, but I’m so glad I found a groovy station and listeners like you. In the past, I was an on-air host for Cox Media Group Athens’ 106.1 Your Georgia Country and Magic 102.1 and was a news anchor for WGAU 98.7 FM. After my time with CMG Athens ended, I was an anchor/reporter for WDUN AM 550/FM 102.9 in Gainesville, Ga.

When I’m not gabbing on-air, I love collecting (spending too much money) on records! I have about 220 vinyl records in my collection, not to brag (totally to brag). I’m the “mother” to my beautiful, 5-year-old lionhead rabbit named Morrison. And yes, he’s named after Jim Morrison ;-). I have a banjo and a guitar that I don’t practice enough, and I’m semi-fluent in French! I love going to concerts and festivals, and I’ve been lucky enough to see Stevie Nicks live five times. I have also been to Bonnaroo several times!

When I was 13, I convinced my Dad to take me to Bonnaroo and we saw Paul McCartney headline! I’m an only child, so I'm very close with my parents and extended family like my Uncle Chris and late Aunt Kathi. My Mom and Dad have supported me during this journey and they encouraged me to never give up on my radio dream!

So here I am in the best city in the world, Music City, Nashville! Let’s keep dancing hippies, one and all, and stay groovy!
