The History of WHIN 1010 AM 107.5 FM out of Sumner County

The History of WHIN Radio – Gallatin, Tennessee
WHIN Radio first went on the air on August 2, 1948, under the banner of the Sumner County Broadcasting Company. It began broadcasting from a modest stucco building located two miles north of Gallatin, Tennessee, along Highway 109. At launch, WHIN transmitted at 1,000 watts, reaching a 50-mile radius that covered not just Sumner County but parts of Middle Tennessee and beyond. Early reports from radio DXers confirmed that WHIN’s powerful 1010 AM signal reached as far as Canada and Australia. From the start, the station was committed to public service, participating in campaigns for the March of Dimes, local school PTAs, cancer drives, and more. It also became a hub for agricultural programming, music, faith-based broadcasts, and community news.
